Lifesaving Stations

Life Saving Station at Bond's, Long Beach Island, NJ

Bond's Life saving station, now a private residence

In the 1800's the United States Government set up a series of lifesaving stations at regular intervals along the Atlantic coast. The stations were manned and had equipment for rescues such as surf boats and lyle guns.

Some of these have been lost. However a fair number survive as private residences.
