Tidbits about Long Beach Island, New Jersey

  • The Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant, one of the earlier nuclear plants is just north of the Island.

  • Manahawkin is from an old Indian name meaning 'Land of good corn"

  • Back in the late 60's or early 70's an eight foot hammerhead shark was caught by a couple of local kids in the bay. The shark hung from the cat's head on the Lucy Evelyn for some time.
