This is from a 1963 ad. Gus and Whitey’s was a popular bar and cocktail lounge in Beach Haven

The location was Engleside and West Avenues. I believe that is currently the location of Tucker’s Tavern although I could be mistaken. Gus and Whitey’s was also known as the Port O’ Call.

  2. Prior to opening their restaurant Gus & Whitey worked (and possibly ran) the Beach Haven Yacht Club. One of my earliest memories was going to the Yacht Club with my father who knew them well. I was 16 in 1963 and that was the year I sold them bay scallops for the restaurant.

  3. We ate at Gus and Whitey every Friday night in the 50’s. Our parents would pick us up at school in NYC and we’d drive down to LBI for the weekend. We spent the summer there and later in the 60’s my brother clammed and sold them to the dealer.
