The March 1962 Great Northeast Storm

The March 1962 Great Northeast Storm: A Northeast Storm devastated the island in March of 1962. Lives were lost. Thousands of properties were destroyed or severely damaged. Marinas were wiped out.

The aftermath left the island cut through from the ocean to the bay in several places. A destroyer broke loose from it’s tow and was beached in Holgate.

Here are some photos of the aftermath of the March 1962 Northeaster storm. The first photo is of the intersection of 17th and Waverly in North Beach Haven. That storm devastated Long Beach Island with wind and flooding damage.
