The Acme was one of the hottest bars on LBI during the 1970’s.

The Ketch was once the Acme Hotel, Bar and Restaurant. During it’s heyday it was a favorite of celebrities such as Babe Ruth. It was also allegedly a speakeasy during prohibition. When the revenuers were on their way, the stash of not so legal booze could be dropped into the bay.

The Rip Tide, formerly The Antlers

The Rip Tide was on Dock Road adjacent to the Ketch (formerly the Acme).

The Rip Tide was a bar on Dock Road. It was next to the Acme Bar. Herb Fieler, a noted organist played there as well as at other venues on the island.

Tucker’s Island – the Atlantis of Long Beach Island.

Tucker’s Island was a small community on an island/peninsula just south of Holgate.  The island had been inhabited since the late 1700’s. In the 1800’s Rueben Tucker purchased the island and built a home and small tavern. The community grew. Eventually it was about half the size of Beach Haven.

Morrison’s Restaurant

Morrison's Restaurant - Beach Haven, NJ

Morrison’s Restaurant was a classic LBI restaurant. It had been serving great seafood since the 1940’s. It’s position adjacent to the intercoastal waterway and large windows provided a parade of boats for diners. The volume of boats dropped off significantly as time progressed. In the earlier days, you would see a continuous procession of  everything from well worn garveys to expensive sport fishermen while you enjoyed great seafood.

Lucy Evelyn at anchor

The Lucy Evelyn was a three masted schooner built in 1917 in Harrington Maine and homeported in Machias Maine.  She served for a number of years including the packet trade to South America. At one point in World War II, she was shelled by a German U-Boat and survived.

Mr. Tee’s Arcade and mini golf on Long Beach Island

Mr. Tee’s has two locations. The 18 hole mini golf remains at 18th Street in North Beach Haven. There is also and arcade and mini golf in Beach Haven just south of Murphy’s Market. Players can play 18 or 36 holes at the Beach Haven location.
